The curious case of Benjamin Button - Francis Scott Fitzgerald

First Part
Button Family has had a new baby, a special baby. They well considered in their community, they're respected, they have a good social status and reputation.

When Mr. Roger Button goes to the Hospital to see his boy he feels that something is wrong, the Doctor is nervous and angry. The boy is not what he expected, he is indignant. Roger can't understand anything, he's afraid.

The little Button is a white haired boy, with wrinkles and he doesn’t like blankets. His father has trouble with his clothes. Benjamin Button is like an old man not like a boy.

Benjamin can't make the same things as the other boys. His voice, his desires or his pleasures are different although his father can't see it.

When his neighbors meet "little" Button, they talk about how the boy resembles his grandfather. The Button family doesn’t like it, they're embarrassed, but it is true and the grandfather is not very happy. Even though, a few days later child and grandpa feel like peers.

One day in front of the mirror Benjamin realizes that he feels younger than the years before, he is twelve years old. When he turns eighteen his father sends him to College and Benjamin has a difficult experience because of his special condition, the college registrar and rest of the students.

But it wasn't all bad news...

Second Part
Benjamin meets Miss Hildegarde and he falls in love instantly. She likes men around their fifties and coincidentally that is what he looks like, but this romance turns out to be more complicated than that.

General Moncrief doesn't approve of this relationship under any concept, his age and his unsuccessful business are the main problems. Despite that they get married and surprisingly the wholesale hardware, the Button family business, grows up more and more. The General has to accept Benjamin like the rest of the neighbors.

In the meantime, Benjamin feels really well, strong, spending time around beautiful women and a good social position. His business is going alright but he needs to dedicate more time to his wife, who feels less attractive to him than before. This is the beginning of their marriage problems.

Although the couple has a little boy Benjamin decides to go to Spanish-American War because he is bored at home and he isn't feeling well with his wife. When he comes back home he looks like a man of thirty, even younger than before. This is one of their problems, his wife doesn't understand it and he doesn't know what to do about it, however, his mind is somewhere else. He becomes a proficient dancer.
He and his son look like brothers. Roscoe, Benjamin’s son, begins to manage the family business and Benjamin goes to Harvard as a freshman to complete his studies. When he comes back nothing is like before. He can't work with his son, he doesn't like his wife and he can't t return to the army because he is a little boy.
Benjamin’s story finishes with him going back to kindergarten until the end.

Aromatic Chicken Curry

I know curry chicken because next to my home there is a bar, " Alambique", where you can eat a delicious curry chicken. I like it a lot. It is a dish from India and it is very aromatic. INGREDIENTS: 3 tablespoons of olive oil. 1 or 2 minced onions. 2 skinless, boneless chicken breast cut into cubes. 2 teaspoons of curry powder. 1/2 teaspoons of ground turmeric. 200 ml of milk. 200 ml of cream. A glass of Basmati rice. Salt and pepper. PREPARATION: Heat olive oil in a pan and when it's hot add minced onions stir it until it is golden 30'. At low heat. Transfer the onions to a blending container and blend with ground turmeric. Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper. Put some olive oil in a pan, medium heat, add chicken and cook until browned on all sides 5 or 10'. Add the blended mix together with chicken and curry powder and cream and milk to a pan until it's cooked stirring in a medium-low heat for 25' - 30', until the sauce thickens. BASMATI RICE: Wash the rice and leave soaking 15' so the rice is loose. Boil water and add salt and basmati rice and cook during 15' or 20'. Enjoy! (Recipe by Isabel)

The Canterville Ghost

The Canterville Ghost - Oscar Wilde The Otises, a rich American family arrive to live and work in England. They buy an old house in the countryside owned by the Cantervilles which has a ghost. The Otises have their first encounter with the ghost and instead of being afraid they make fun of him. The ghost is very sad. I think Mrs. Umney, the housekeeper, has a secret. (up to page 6) Pages 7 - 12 (by Alfonso) We see how the ghost continues to fail in his attempts to frighten to Otis family. Virgnia has another attitude towards the ghost. The ghost tells her that he killed his wife and also that his brothers-in-law killed him. The reason was that his wife was a bad person and her family too, because her brothers were rude. At the end Virginia and the ghost speak about a special garden, the garden of love or death. Pages 13 - 16 (by Milagros) Then a poem appears on the library window. A beautiful and deep poem. Virginia reads it. And this is the meaning: "only a blonde girl that cries for the ghost can save him", it is to say, that he finally will rest. Then Virginia said: "yes, I'll do it". They both disappear into the dark through a wall. The family is very worried, because Virginia is not there. They look for her around the house, without answer. It is only possible to wait. Then, at twelve o'clock the Otises hear a big noise and suddenly Virginia is there, very pale and with a box in her hands. The box is a present, it contains a necklace. She explains what happened and the family follows Virginia to a secret room. There is a skeleton, it belongs to the ghost. Many days later there is a funeral. Many people go there, to the Garden of Death. A nightingale begins to sing just as the ghost told Virginia. She smiles."

A Perfect Day

Perfect Day 10

My perfect day is waking up to the aroma of a delicious coffee. To get out of bed and look out the window to see a radiant sun. Go out for a walk with a good friend and laugh. Enjoy the day to the fullest in the Retiro Park or in a beach retreat if possible. Go home and watch a movie before going to sleep and dream with the angels or handsome guys.

Perfect Day 9

Is there anything better than this? A perfect day!! It´s five o’clock in the afternoon, friday, time to close. My car is in the garage in front of the office already with my baggage: 3 pairs of socks, sunglasess, 2 jerseys, ski helmet, skis, boats, gloves and some clothes to go out for dinner... I pick up my two best skiing friends, Barriga and Casado, the perfect day begins!!! When we are arriving to Formigal it starts to snow, at this moment the song that we are listening is don´t panic (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWeuUwpEQfs)... This song represents a lot in my life because it was the song playing in my wedding when we started to dance. Returning to the trip, we arrive at ten pm to Barriga’s house, before we enter the garage I stop de car to take a look at the landscape, all the rooftops are covered with snow, it starts to snow heavily, tomorrow it should be amazing! The phone alarm goes off at 8 am in the morning, first I connect spotify with my speaker and I play The Bomb of Pigeon John (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_C3qkI4UwrY) to wake up my friends and have breakfast. In just 30 minutes we are in the car going up to the ski station. It’s a sunny day, no wind, few people and two new meters of snow!!!! 9 am: First descent of the day, we climb a mountain out of the station, there are no tracks. Connect GoPro to record this incredible day, play music and begin the party!! We ski from 9 am to 4 pm without rest, my legs can’t hold any longer, my heart beats as many times in a day as it does in a normal week, I take off my skis and go to Marchica. “Hey!! Three Gin Tonics with a lot of ice and three shots of chocolate vodka to celebrate this perfect day!!” Let’s start the party!! That’s a perfect day for me... :-)

Perfect Day 8

A day without surprises, and that is any quiet day. Enjoy myself in good company. Going for a stroll along the beach, go surfin and then play in the sea. After I have lunch and I take a nap. Then, I meet my friends, we go to watch a movie, when it's finished we will enjoy talking and drinking some wines. Later I read, I hear music, and I am ready for a good sleep.

Perfect Day 7

When I travel from Madrid to London I go to meet my daughter. She's studying at university. I'm very happy practising my English until I meet her. After we have lunch together. My daughter tells me her problems, her next goals, her projects etc... and I'm very happy listening to her. Later we go shopping. She helps me find nice clothes for me, I consider her opinion very important. I finish buying what she recommends me. She also buys clothes for herself and we enjoy very much talking and and shopping together.

Perfect Day 6

Ok, my perfect day, it is when I wake up in the morning and it's really sunny, I put on my workout clothes and I go for a run on the beach. Then I receive flowers from my love with a letter saying "I Love You". I have a good day at work and I come back home tired but very happy because the dinner and the dessert have already been prepared by him.

jueves, 3 de marzo de 2016

Perfect Day 5

I think that "the perfect day" does not exist, but most of the days are good days, almost perfect days. But, if I stop to think about it, I can imagine... It would be Sunday, noon, the alarm clock wouldn't ring. I would sleep home with my boyfriend. We would wake up and we would go to the 'Rastro'. The 'Rastro' is more varied than markets in other towns. It is the biggest entertainment on a Sunday morning. Time to eat, we would eat in a Senegalese restaurant in Lavapies, Mamado. Mamado is the cheapest and tastiest of the Senegalese restaurants. In the afternoon, we would go to the Retiro. We would take some beers and we would play guitar and we would sing! I don't need more for my perfect day.

martes, 1 de marzo de 2016

Perfect Day 4

My perfect day would be go to the mountain for trekking with my best friends. A sunny day with good weather, our backpacks, our sandwiches, some beers and good vibes!! After trekking, we will look for a peaceful place where we will eat our food and we will rest. We will talk about our plans, we will take photographs and we will laugh a lot. When we come back, we will take a shower and we will go out for a pizza. After, we will go dancing and we will go to a party.

Perfect Day 3

A perfect plan is a sunny day with my family. I like to go to the beach in Santander. The sand of the beach is the softest than I can think of. Maybe I'm not very objective!!!😬😬😬😬 We are going to walk closer to the sea and we are going to play with my nieces. After, we are going to eat seafood and other typical dishes from Santander. We are going to talk about ourselves and we will speak about our future plans. Also, I'd like to have drink while I watch the sunset. There are many places where you can watch it from, it is marvellous. When I am in Santander with them, I don't need anything!!!

Perfect day 2

A perfect day is when I get out of bed at 11. And it is cold outside but in my house it's hot. A perfect day is to walk in the countryside with friends and then have a snack on the grass. A perfect day is one when I'm with the people I love.

Perfect day 1

In my perfect day I wake up whenever I want, but early to exercise in front of the sea in a larger, newer and more beautiful house than mine with a personal trainer. Then I eat out with my best friends in a good cafe and the weather is better than now in Madrid. In my perfect day I don't want to use social networking sites to keep in touch with friends also I don't have any meetings with my students' parents. And I don't have to commute of course. On that day, I will have wild party and play loud music all night long with friends, and before I go to bed with a kind guy I'm going to swim in the house's swimming pool.

Murders in Rue Morgue - Chapter 6 by Thais

Dupin heard footsteps on the stairs, it was the sailor, when he entered the house, Dupin closed the door, and the sailor began to tell the truth… He found the orang-outang on a trip and took the orang-outang with him home, because he believed that he would be able to sell the orang-outan. When the orang-outang arrived with him home it started to act weird, he began to run down the street with a razor in its hands, it saw a window with the light on, entered into the house and the orang-outang killed the mother and the daughter… After the sailor and Dupin told the truth to the police, they released the innocent clerk from the bank and the orang-outan was sold to a zoo.

Murders in Rue Morgue - Chapter 5 by Lourdes

There were many questions, which hadn't been resolved. Dupin thought that the event was terrible and he didn't understand anything. He thought that this damage to the face couldn't have been done by a human person. He thought that the murderer was very strong and very big. The old woman had her hair separated from her body. He thought that the murderer had dangerous fingers. Dupin found a hair of the murderer and he said that this hair wasn't a human hair. Dupin had a book which explained about this hair. This hair was an orang-outang’s. All the description in the book was really about an orang-outang. Also, there were some voices that were from a frenchman who said "oh my god". Dupin thought that these there were the facts: "A frenchman had an orang-outang in his house. He believed that this wasn't dangerous. But the orang-outang escaped from his house and it went into the madame’s house L'Espanage and he killed her with its fingers".

Murders in the Rue Morgue - Chapter 4 by Alfonso

Dupin continued looking for the way the murderers escaped. The assassins were either in the room where they found Mademoiselle L'Espanaye or in the room next to it. So they had only two rooms to look for the exit. In the rooms there are chimneys, but they are too small to even allow a cat to climb them up. So the only possible exit were the windows. The murderers couldn't escape through the windows at the front of the house because somebody could have seen them, so they passed through the windows in the back room. There were two windows in this room but they seemed nailed. Dupin knew that the windows were the only means of exit. Besides, he wondered as the murderers fell from the fourth floor, so they had to have great agility. Another peculiar thing was the strong voice and why the assassins did not take the gold that there were was in the apartament, 4,000 francs. There was not any motive for their murders.
